The Screen Ville: Highlights Of The 2017 Golden Globes

The 74th annual Golden Globe awards held last night while most of us were asleep. We woke up to the news of what went down, who said what, and the big winners.  

As with any awards show, this also came with it’s fair share of surprises. Lala land swept all the categories it was nominated in, breaking the record for most award wins by one film. It won all of the categories it was nominated in, which includes Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Director, Best Film score, Best Original song and Best Screen play.

Meryl Streep while receiving her lifetime achievement award laid into president elect, Donald Trump for his insensitive comments,being a bully and misusing his power.  She said ” Hollywood is crawling with foreigners and outsiders and if we kick them all out you’ll have nothing to watch but football and mixed martial arts, which are not the arts.” 

Tracee Ellis Ross took home the award for best actress in a Tv series for Blackish, becoming the first black actress in 34 years to do so. Viola Davis also took home the award for Best Supporting Actress.

The Brits also had a good night. Claire Foy took home the globes for lead actess courtesy The crown which also won best television series drama. The Night manager took home 3 awards. 

Moonlight took home the award for Best Picture (Drama). It was a well deserved win.
